Bette Midler – now and then.

Are you a person who follows celebrities to know the person behind the public image? Are you indifferent to, or do you like or dislike what you find?

On Monday of this week I watched the tail end of ‘The Rose’ starring Bette Midler. The first time I watched this movie was in 1980, in Sydney (I think at the magnificent State theatre). I liked it then and still do. It’s easy to like The Divine Miss M.

Below is a photo I captured from the telly on Monday and below is The Rose from the movie. Lyrics at end of post.

Bette Midler – The Rose

And NOW for something completely different,

When watching the movie on Monday I remembered reading (and bookmarking) the Twitter post below. The Divine Miss M, on this occasion, catering to the ‘Climate Change’ and Labour devotees, insulting the P.M. of Australia and, by default, the rest of us. This during the severe fires of our 2019/2020 summer.

Words for today; I stopped looking through Rose coloured glasses

More to come; same blog time, same blog channel.

Bette Midler – The Rose.

Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed

It’s the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking, that never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken, who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed, that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose

  1. Yes, great singer and have enjoyed her movies too. Don’t appreciate her political comments one bit. I don’t agree with her politics at all. Even if I did, why on earth does Midler and her like think we care about their opinions. Why are they considered such authorities on politics and the world in general when they clearly should stick to what they know,…..which isn’t much.

  2. The Divine Miss M has feet of clay, Bruce. I used to try to separate the person from the talent. But my list of woke actors I won’t watch any more has grown like topsy. 😉

  3. The Rose is a lovely song but I haven’t seen the film. That woman could sing.
