In the year 2525 – Zager and Evans 1968.

This song often plays in my mind because of this year, 2020. A year like no other.

Marked in Australia by deadly bushfires, drought, floods, COVID-19, imported protests and our nation-wide resilience being put to the test, 2020 is a life changing year that will stick in memories, if not forever, for a very long time.

Not far away is 2021 which hopefully isn’t a continuation of this year. No manual has been written to guide us through this COVID-19 pandemic so it’s a step by step learning process.

On the super cheery side there is a good reason or two to remember 2020. And this applies everywhere. Cynical, impressed? Well …..

  • This year we will all have 2020 vision, physically, emotionally or intellectually. It may be good, bad or ugly but it will be 2020 vision.
  • Next year, with the benefit of 2020 hindsight, we can rebuild and be better equipped to handle a pandemic.
  • Sooner than next year, the violent rioters running free must be stopped.
  • It will happen, because next year, this year will be last year.
In the year 2525 by Zager and Evans

Words for today: In the year 2020, if man is still alive, if woman

More to come; same blog time, same blog channel

In the Year 2525

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find
In the year 3535
Ain’t gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain’t gonna need your teeth, won’t need your eyes
You won’t find a thing to chew
Nobody’s gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain’t gonna need no husband, won’t need no wife
You’ll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube’ Whoooa

In the year 7510
If God’s a-comin’ he ought to make it by then
Maybe he’ll look around himself and say
Guess it’s time for the Judgement day

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head then
He’ll either say I’m pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I’m kinda wondering if man is gonna be alive
He’s taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain’t put back nothing

Now it’s been 10, 000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man’s reign is through
But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it’s only yesterday

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may thrive
In the year 3535
Ain’t gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do or say
Is in the pill you took today…

  1. Great song and lyrics. All a bit optomistic isn’t it 🙃😁

    • Optimistic for sure. Well, perhaps at the end Maureen where they sing ‘maybe it was only yesterday’. It was the late sixties with peace and pipes after all.

  2. I am cynical, Bruce and depressed. 😞

    • Even with 2020 vision and 2020 hindsight and the lyrics? Don’t be depressed Mary, I won’t have it. This time will pass, barring an asteroid.

      • Given the state I’m in, Bruce, I feel it’s only a matter of time before the asteroid arrives. xx

      • Just think of 10 thumbs going for the keys. That should change your state momentarily at least.

      • How’s Fur Elise going?

      • I haven’t tried it yet but I think I will have a go soon on YouTube. I used to be okay at Star Wars after all. If you hear swearing from the north that will be me.
